Basketball Recap: Porter Ridge Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Reid Johannes and Jacob Conroy

Porter Ridge was the 52-47 winner over Monroe when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Porter Ridge Pirates took a 70-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monroe Redhawks on Wednesday. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Porter Ridge's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Conroy, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists, and Reid Johannes, who posted 11 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brayden Payne, who scored 11 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Porter Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monroe only racked up ten assists.

Leading Monroe to victory were Bryson Simpkins and Kaegan Chambers. Simpkins went 8 of 9 en route to 24 points and seven boards, while Chambers put up 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Chambers is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamari Clark, who had 11 points.

Porter Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Monroe, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Porter Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-51 loss against Cuthbertson on the 17th. As for Monroe, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-49 win against Anson on the 16th.
