2014 High School Football Top 25 team preview: No. 14 DeSoto

By Stephen Spiewak Jun 19, 2014, 12:00am

Reloaded Eagles ready to soar again in 2014.

2013 finish:
14-1; Class 5A-I semifinalist

Points per game: 52.1

Points allowed per game: 24.1

No. of returning starters (offense): 8

No. of returning starters (defense):
4

Head coach: Claude Mathis

Career record: 86-40

Assistant coaches:
Donald Miller
Paul Simmons
Jason Wheeler
Brian Stansberry
Ben Dodson
Kyle Ferrell

Outlook: DeSoto could be as good in 2014 as it was in 2013, an extremely scary proposition for any opponent or potential playoff opponent. It will be without last year's team MVP, Desmon White. But head coach Claude Mathis has demonstrated the ability to reload. Look for the Eagles to routinely hang 50 points on opponents en route to another mega showdown with Allen.
