Recap: Bayard Tigers vs. Bridgeport Bulldogs
It was a good run, but the Bayard Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 50-38 to Bridgeport. Bayard lost against Bridgeport in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 77-16 score last time.
Bayard's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lexi Fiscus, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Joslyn Shay hopkins, who scored six points along with two steals.
Bridgeport's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Loomis-goltl, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Loomis-goltl hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Grace Dean was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Bayard's loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-2. As for Bridgeport, they pushed their record up to 17-0 with that win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bayard the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Kimball at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st. Kimball will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Bayard is ranked 54th). Bridgeport will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Torrington at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
