Soccer Game Preview: Clover vs. Mauldin

Clover is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Mauldin is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Eagles will welcome the Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Clover is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Spring Valley get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Clover's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Spring Valley are ranked 51st).

Meanwhile, Mauldin hadn't done well against J.L. Mann recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Mavericks who were credited with the win. Mauldin got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to J.L. Mann's four. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Mauldin's one-goal win came courtesy of Noah Terry, who's now up to six this season.

Mauldin's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Clover, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.

Clover got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2023 against Mauldin by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
