Basketball Recap: Anndee Jaixen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Amherst over Overton

Amherst lost against Overton back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Amherst Broncos took a 46-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Overton Eagles. While the Broncos didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 12-8 in the first quarter.

Amherst's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AnnDee Jaixen, who posted seven points. Another player making a difference was Addy Simmons, who scored seven points.

Overton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gracen Hughes, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 16 points gave Hughes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Daisy Ryan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Amherst's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-6. As for Overton, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Amherst will be playing in front of their home fans against Alma at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Overton, they and Maxwell will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
