Basketball Game Preview: La Junta Tigers vs. Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs

The La Junta Tigers will challenge the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Last Friday, La Junta beat Florence 25-16. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

La Junta can attribute much of their success to Katalina Salas, who posted ten points. Those ten points gave Salas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabelle Aragon, who put up four points and seven boards.

La Junta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Pueblo Centennial ended up a good deal behind Pueblo Central on Wednesday and lost 44-25. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now lost five in a row.

La Junta pushed their record up to 10-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.0 points over those games. As for Pueblo Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.

La Junta beat Pueblo Centennial 30-17 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Does La Junta have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pueblo Centennial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
