How many Great Lakes teams are in this week's Top 25 high school football rankings?

Silos, smokestacks, steeples and stadium lights. The Great Lakes region is molded by its horizon. North Coast communities are defined - in part - by Friday nights.

Here's our latest look at the top prep football teams in a landscape that houses the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Lambeau Field, the Big Ten Conference, Notre Dame and several of the top high school programs in the history of the sport.

State champs, national acclaim, big-time talent. North Coast football is a force. So are the following teams from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

@EFrantzMP's High School Football Great Lakes Regional Rankings: 9/18

1. Mentor (Ohio) – 3-0
Last Week (5): The Cardinals beat Clarkson Football North (Ontario) 28-15 in a game that was called at half due to weather and travel logistics. Junior quarterback Ian Kipp ran for two touchdowns and threw for another. Mentor also scored on a pick-six. Ranked No. 17 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 9/20, 7 p.m. at Elyria (Ohio) – 1-2



2. Pickerington Central (Ohio) – 3-0
Last Week (3): The Tigers exploded for a 35-7 halftime lead en route to beating visiting Naperville Central (Ill.) 49-28. Demeatric Crenshaw completed 10-of-13 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns, Nick Mosley ran for 239 yards and three touchdowns and Lorenzo Styles Jr. had six catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Pickerington Central plays its first Ohio opponent this week.
Next Up: 9/20, 7 p.m. at Groveport-Madison (Ohio) – 3-0

3. St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) – 1-2
Last Week (2): The Hawks faced a third straight Top 5-national opponent and lost 31-25 to IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). St. Joseph held a 12-10 halftime lead thanks to a 12-yard touchdown catch and 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by junior Sahmir Hagans. Ranked No. 24 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 9/28, 7 p.m. vs La Salle College (Wyndmoor, Pa.) – 4-0

4. Muskegon (Mich.) – 3-0
Last Week (4): The Big Reds opened up a 20-0 lead and held on for a 28-23 victory over East Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids, Mich.). Ohio State commit Cameron Martinez ran for 243 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.
Up Next: 9/20, 7 p.m. vs Kenowa Hills (Grand Rapids, Mich.) – 2-1

5. St. Ignatius (Cleveland) – 2-1
Last Week (NR): The Wildcats recorded one of the program’s biggest comeback wins by rallying from a 35-10 deficit to beat then No. 1 and host Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) 42-41. The win snapped Hoban’s 31-game win streak. The Knights last loss was to St. Ignatius in the 2017 season opener. Kicker Declan Mangan booted 56-and 53-yard field goals. Quarterback Griffin Hanna threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns. Ranked No. 25 in the MaxPreps Top 25 National Rankings this week.
Up Next: 9/21, 2 p.m. at DeMatha (Md.) – 2-1

6. Archbishop Hoban (Akron, Ohio) – 2-1
Last Week (1): Four-time defending OHSAA Division II state champs lost a 25-point lead and suffered a rare defeat (42-41) to St. Ignatius. Senior running back and Arizona State recruit Deamonte Trayanum ran for 127 yards and scored three touchdowns. Ranked No. 30 in the MaxPreps National Rankings this week.
Next Up: 9/20, 7 p.m. vs West Toronto Prep (Ontario) – 0-3

7. East St. Louis (Ill.) – 3-0
Last Week (6): Beat Neuqua Valley (Naperville, Ill.) 50-48. Receiver Dominic Lovett came up huge with eight catches for 208 yards and two touchdowns, an 89-yard touchdown run on a fake punt and three two-point conversions.
Next Up: 9/21, 1 p.m. vs Belleville West (Belleville, Ill.) – 1-1



8. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – 3-0
Last Week (7): The Griffins scored on all six first half possessions (four different players scored) en route to a 42-7 win over Bradley-Bourbonnais.
Next Up: 9/20, 7 pm at Bolingbrook (Ill.) – 3-0

9. Washington (Massillon, Ohio) – 3-0
Last Week (8): Zion Phifer ran for two touchdowns and Aidan Longwell threw two touchdown passes to Ohio State commit Jayden Ballard and the Tigers beat Warren Harding 49-7.
Next Up: 9/20, 7:30 p.m. at Penn-Tratford (Pa.) – 4-0

10. Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa, Pa.) – 4-0
Last Week (9): The Tigers set a state record with their 76th straight regular season victory – a 62-0 win over Shamokin Area. This season Southern Columbia is outscoring the opposition 222-0.
Next Up: 9/20, 7 p.m. vs Central Columbia (Bloomsburg, Pa.) – 4-1
