Preview: Midwood Hornets vs. Dewey
The Midwood Hornets will head out on the road to take on Dewey at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Midwood comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last six games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Midwood suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against John Jay, falling 63-23. While losing is never fun, Midwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 455th, while John Jay is ranked 183rd).
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 83-29, which was the final score in Dewey's tilt against East New York Family Academy on Friday.
Midwood's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Dewey, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Everything came up roses for Midwood against Dewey in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 55-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Midwood since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
