Millville has gone 8-2 against Neumann Regional Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Quakers will be playing at home against the Golden Knights at 4:30 p.m. Millville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Millville got the win against Bucktail by a conclusive 11-1. The win continues a trend for the Quakers in their matchups with the Bucks: they've now won eight in a row.
Evan Brokenshire made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Brokenshire was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Nathan Benedict was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Curtis Whitmoyer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
While Neumann Regional Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Benton 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Knights have posted since April 30, 2024.
Like Millville, Neumann Regional Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Angelo Birch. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Birch a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Birch wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Walter, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Kane Meixel was another, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Neumann Regional Academy is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Millville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Millville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .486. However, it's not like Neumann Regional Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .482. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Millville beat Neumann Regional Academy 5-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Quakers repeat their success, or do the Golden Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
