Baseball Recap: Southwestern's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Southwestern dropped their record down to 16-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They lost 16-2 to the Seymour Owls. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rebels, who until this contest were averaging 3.63 runs allowed.

Southwestern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tryson Warren, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

As for Seymour, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Considering they have won seven matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Seymour's side, Braden Richey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Those 14 strikeouts gave Richey a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Mikey Wright was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Jackson Trueblood was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Southwestern and Seymour are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Rebels will face off against Brownstown Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Seymour, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Shelbyville at 11:00 a.m. The Golden Bears will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Owls surely won't give up without a fight.
