Softball Game Preview: Seton Catholic Sentinels vs. Coolidge Bears

The Seton Catholic Sentinels will square off against the Coolidge Bears at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Coolidge will be up against a hot Seton Catholic team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Sentinels never let ALA - Ironwood get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Thursday. Considering the Sentinels have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Brooke Zuluaga made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Scarlett Olivares was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Eva Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Coolidge had taken Florence down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Bears fell just short of the Gophers by a score of 13-12. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Seton Catholic pushed their record up to 15-5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Coolidge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
