Chugiak has gone 9-1 against Bartlett recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will welcome the Golden Bears at 5:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Service, who was ranked 15th at the time (Chugiak was ranked second). The Mustangs blew past the Cougars 25-5 on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won six contests in a row.
Chugiak let Isabel Sjostrand and Shelby Strange run wild. Sjostrand went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and four runs, while Strange got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, Strange posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. Aubree Sims was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Chugiak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .423 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bartlett got the win against Service on Monday by a conclusive 15-1.
Luisa Faumuina made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Saniyah Faumuina and Khloe Faaaliga did most of the damage at the plate: Saniyah went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Faaaliga went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Faaaliga is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Borschnack, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
Bartlett's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Chugiak, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Chugiak has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Bartlett struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chugiak got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Bartlett by a conclusive 19-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
