The York Dukes will challenge the Waubonsie Valley Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While York's victory against Addison Trail wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. York had just enough and edged out Addison Trail 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Dukes in their matchups with the Blazers: they've now won six in a row.
Matt Young and Andrew Papadopoulos dominated on the mound. Young pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Papadopoulos pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, York saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Lisowski, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Waubonsie Valley hadn't done well against Oswego East recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Waubonsie Valley walked away with a 6-2 victory over Oswego East. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Waubonsie Valley also got a great performance from Seth Gilliland as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Owen Roberts was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
York pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.25 runs across that stretch. As for Waubonsie Valley, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
York skirted past Waubonsie Valley 4-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Does York have another victory up their sleeve, or will Waubonsie Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
