Basketball Recap: Warwick Takes a Loss

Warwick lost against Kecoughtan back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Warwick Raiders fell 61-51 to the Kecoughtan Warriors.

It was another big night for Caleb Mathews, who went 11-for-18 to rack up 33 points and six boards for Kecoughtan. The matchup was Mathews' fifth in a row with at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Dryden, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Warwick has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Kecoughtan, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Warwick and Kecoughtan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Warwick will face off against Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 194 places (237 vs. 43). Similarly, Kecoughtan (ranked 136th) will meet Woodside (ranked seventh) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
