Basketball Recap: Gavin Calleja's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Eastside over Gainesville

Eastside lost against Gainesville back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eastside Rams took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gainesville Hurricanes. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 86th).

Eastside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Calleja, who posted four points. Jordan Johnson was another key player, putting up three points and five rebounds.

Eastside dropped their record down to 1-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Gainesville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Eastside wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-55 loss against Wesley Chapel on the 11th. As for Gainesville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 65-56 win against St. John Paul II on the 11th.
