Basketball Recap: Matthew Akpan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead BASIS - Chandler over East Valley Athletes for Christ

BASIS - Chandler lost against East Valley Athletes for Christ back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The BASIS - Chandler Bobcats took a hard 62-47 fall against the East Valley Athletes for Christ Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Eagles are ranked 30th).

BASIS - Chandler lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Matthew Akpan, who posted 13 points. Wilson Hilgaertner was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Valley Athletes for Christ to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ian Porter, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Aaron McAvoy, who scored ten points and seven boards.

BASIS - Chandler's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-7. As for East Valley Athletes for Christ, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.

BASIS - Chandler didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-39 victory against South Pointe on the 16th. As for East Valley Athletes for Christ, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-32 win against ASU Prep on the 13th.
