Basketball Game Preview: James Monroe Mavericks vs. PikeView Panthers + Official Tickets

The James Monroe Mavericks will head out on the road to take on the PikeView Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. James Monroe has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 173 points over their last three contests.

Last Thursday, James Monroe beat Narrows 56-46. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Green Waves: they've now won three in a row.

James Monroe got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lydia Dunlap out in front who shot 64% from the field en route to 20 points along with eight boards and five steals. Dunlap's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Mya Dunlap was another key player, putting up 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

James Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, PikeView had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a blow against Greater Beckley Christian, falling 75-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since December 17, 2024.

James Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for PikeView, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

James Monroe strolled past PikeView in their previous meeting back in March of 2021 by a score of 56-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
