Football Game Preview: Edinburg Bobcats vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears

For the first time this season, Edinburg will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edinburg's defense has only allowed 11.6 points per game this season, so Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Edinburg is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Los Fresnos just ended the team's three-game winning streak last Friday. They fell 21-15 to the Falcons.

Despite the loss, Edinburg had strong showings from Aidden Sanchez, who threw for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Jude Vega, who picked up 78 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo played a tough contest last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Veterans Memorial, falling 48-7. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 748th, while the Chargers are ranked 346th).

Despite the defeat, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Devin Hernandez rushed for 135 yards and one TD. Those 135 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Hernandez. Jonathan Sauceda also helped out with an impressive 83 receiving yards.

Edinburg suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 3-2. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Edinburg might still be hurting after the 28-6 loss they got from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Bobcats, Myles Lopez (who threw for 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 84 yards and one score) won't be suiting up this time.
