Basketball Game Preview: Galileo Lions vs. Mission Bears

Galileo and Mission are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Galileo Lions will challenge the Mission Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Galileo will be strutting in after a victory while Mission will be coming in after a defeat.

Galileo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging an 81-24 win over The Academy - San Francisco. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Lions had established a 51 point advantage.

Darryn Wong went supernova for Galileo, going 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Wong a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Lee, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, Mission was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were beaten by Lincoln 81-28. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1241st, while the Mustangs are ranked 586th).

Galileo's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Mission, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything came up roses for Galileo against Mission in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured an 85-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Galileo since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
