Basketball Recap: Westwood's Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Westwood entered their contest against Bayside on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Westwood Panthers took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bayside Bears. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Bears are ranked 129th).

Despite the loss, Westwood still got an impressive performance from Te'Anaina Rivers, who posted 12 points and three steals. Bryanna Gore was another key player, putting up eight points and seven rebounds.

Bayside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Donia Moaoui, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Moaoui has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Christina Buigues, who had 15 points.

Westwood's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-3. As for Bayside, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

Westwood and John Carroll Catholic will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. John Carroll Catholic's defense has only allowed 23.6 points per game this season, so Westwood's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bayside, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-26 victory against Merritt Island Christian on the 14th.
