Softball Recap: Floyd Central Starts off Right with Win over Assumption

Floyd Central had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let the Assumption Rockets get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won six in a row.

Adeline Shultz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Lindsay Platt was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Kiersten Fiedler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Floyd Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Assumption only posted a batting average of .048.

This is the second loss in a row for Assumption and nudges their season record down to 6-3-1.

Coming up, Floyd Central will take on Warren County at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Assumption, they will square off against Elizabethtown at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
