Soccer Game Preview: Lafayette vs. Grafton

The Lafayette Rams will venture away from home to take on the Grafton Clippers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lafayette is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Lafayette had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the three-goal drubbing they dealt York on Monday. The Rams never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 27th, while York are ranked 134th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Grafton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over New Kent on Tuesday.

Grafton's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2-1.

Everything went Lafayette's way against Grafton when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Lafayette made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
