Recap: Gibault Catholic Hawks vs. Saxony Lutheran Crusaders
The Gibault Catholic Hawks had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They came out on top against Saxony Lutheran by a score of 44-36. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gibault Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 397th in Illinois, while Saxony Lutheran is ranked 177th in Missouri).
Saxony Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being John Hartmann, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Hartmann is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Owen Bucheit was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Saxony Lutheran struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Gibault Catholic now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Saxony Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Gibault Catholic on the road again on Tuesday and play against Carlyle at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. Carlyle will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Saxony Lutheran, they will head out on the road to square off against Delta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Delta will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
