Softball Recap: Central Dauphin East Takes a Loss

Central Dauphin East extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They lost 12-6 to the Palmyra Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on April 8th.

Gabriela Paul made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Zeppuhar, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

As for Palmyra, the victory snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 3-15 record. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

On Palmyra's side, Emalyn Funck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Funck was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shay Rutter, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Walmer, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Central Dauphin East will square off against Lower Dauphin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Palmyra, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Gettysburg at 4:00 p.m.
