Basketball Game Preview: Danbury Lakers vs. South Central Trojans

The Danbury Lakers will be taking part in a tournament against the South Central Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Danbury has five straight wins, South Central has 17 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Danbury is returning to their home court after beating Calvert on theirs, despite the fact Calvert has dominated at home this season. Danbury came out on top against Calvert by a score of 50-43 on Saturday.

Danbury had a senior duo take command as Maci Brown almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds and Mia McDonald dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Brown has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 28 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Thea Brickner, who posted nine points.

Danbury smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Meanwhile, South Central scored the most points they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 60-53 to Black River.

Danbury pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for South Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-21.

Danbury took their win against South Central in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 62-36. Will Danbury repeat their success, or does South Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
