Christian had lost five straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-5 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 16-15 victory over the Scripps Ranch Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since August 23, 2024.

A big part of Christian's victory came down to the chemistry between Kaleb Runkle and his top target Kai Rosier. Runkle threw for 171 yards and one TD while Rosier picked up 86 receiving yards and one touchdown. Christian also relied on Rosier, who's 51-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed ten in total. All those points came courtesy of Steven Benson: he added nine points with three field goals and another on an extra-point kick.

As for Scripps Ranch, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as they came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Christian is ranked 468th).

When it comes to explaining why Scripps Ranch lost, don't look at Malachi Sayles. Despite the final result, he rushed for 101 yards and one score.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Christian will square off against St. Augustine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Scripps Ranch, they will challenge Cathedral Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
