Baseball Recap: Akron-Fairgrove's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

Akron-Fairgrove had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against the Bridgeport Bearcats by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday.

Deegan Walstead made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Akron-Fairgrove is 2-1 when Walstead allows two or fewer earned runs, but 0-12 otherwise. Walstead was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Joel C. was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Akron-Fairgrove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-13. As for Bridgeport, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Akron-Fairgrove will venture away from home to challenge All Saints Central at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight. Bridgeport does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
