Preview: Canutillo Eagles vs. El Paso Tigers

Canutillo is 3-0 against El Paso since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Canutillo Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the El Paso Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Canutillo is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Last Friday, Canutillo got themselves on the board against Jefferson, but Jefferson never followed suit. They blew past the Silver Foxes, posting a 51-0 victory at home. Considering Canutillo has won five matches by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Canutillo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mathew Gasca, who rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns. Shai Alva also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 42 points the game before, El Paso were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 66-7 loss at the hands of Chapin. El Paso has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The losing side was boosted by Christopher Valenzuela, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Valenzuela was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards.

Canutillo's victory bumped their season record to 7-2 while El Paso's defeat dropped theirs to 3-6.

Everything came up roses for Canutillo against El Paso when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 49-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canutillo since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
