Basketball Recap: Lecanto Skates Past Central with Ease

Lecanto won the last time they faced Central and things went their way on Friday too. The Lecanto Panthers blew past the Central Bears, posting a 57-13 win. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 296th, while the Bears are ranked 616th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Lecanto to victory were Bryleigh Florio and Carly Furniss. Florio went 5 for 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to six steals and five rebounds, while Furniss dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Furniss a new career-high in steals (five). Another player making a difference was Sophie Barbieri, who posted two points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Lecanto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 29 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Central saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kelis Gentry earned four points.

Lecanto now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Lecanto has already played their next matchup, a 54-41 victory against Hernando on the 21st. As for Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-10 defeat against Springstead on the 21st.
