Softball Game Preview: Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers vs. Windber Ramblers

The Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers will head out to square off against the Windber Ramblers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Berlin Brothersvalley will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.

Berlin Brothersvalley's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Shade. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Sam Walker was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Cayley Poorbaugh was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Coral Prosser, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one stolen base.

Berlin Brothersvalley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Windber had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Cougars.

Berlin Brothersvalley's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.4 runs over those games. As for Windber, their record now sits at 12-5-1.

Berlin Brothersvalley took their win against Windber when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
