Basketball Recap: North Newton Comes Up Short

North Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the North White Vikings and fell 43-15. The Spartans lost against the Vikings in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 36-31 score last time.

Tatum Cahill was North Newton's leading scorer, having posted six points. Rylynn Klemz held things down on the boards with six rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North White to victory, but perhaps none more so than Autumn Reif, who posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Katy Westerhouse, who earned six points along with six steals and five boards.

North Newton's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for North White, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 7-12.

North Newton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 45-37 win against Covington on the 25th. North White has also already played their next game, a 30-22 defeat against Clinton Prairie on the 25th.
