League recap: Bossier win leads to rise in state rank

3A District 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Bossier moved up to 147 from 181 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 1. A 35-27 win over Northwood helped the Bearkats improve their standing.

North DeSoto extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Winnfield, 21-16. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Griffins.

North DeSoto's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Austin Simmons threw for 25 yards and Enone Thompson had 25 yards receiving. On the ground Aurren Cooksey chipped in 92 yards.

North DeSoto's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Griffins feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Simmons has thrown for 228 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Damien Boone has four catches for 200 yards. Cooksey leads the league in rushing with 587 yards.

Scott Abernathy's team and the Tigers played the most hotly contested game in 3A District 1 this week, with Scott Abernathy's team eventually emerging with a 21-16 victory. Thompson ran for 84 yards in the win.
