Softball Game Preview: Richwoods Knights vs. Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs

The Richwoods Knights will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Richwoods is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They lost 13-3 to LeRoy on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

Sophie Gorell and Addison Morrissey stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gorell went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double, while Morrissey scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave Morrissey a new career-high. Leah Shaffer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Deer Creek-Mackinaw came up short against Olympia on Saturday and fell 7-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Chiefs in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost four in a row.
