Baseball Game Preview: Lower Merion Aces vs. Springfield Township Spartans

The Lower Merion Aces are taking a road trip to square off against the Springfield Township Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Monday, Lower Merion came up short against Radnor and fell 6-1. The Aces have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Springfield Township had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Panthers. The one-run effort marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Nolan Kidwell tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 7.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Springfield Township saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Cahill, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Owen Hastings also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Lower Merion's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Springfield Township, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything went Lower Merion's way against Springfield Township in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Lower Merion made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
