Baseball Recap: Hannibal Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Hannibal and Quincy Notre Dame, and Quincy Notre Dame kept the tradition alive. The Pirates took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Raiders on Wednesday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Cooper Scott made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Hannibal is 2-1 when Scott posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Reid Holliday was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Hannibal's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Quincy Notre Dame, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-3.

Hannibal and Quincy Notre Dame could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. The Pirates will challenge Fulton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (182 vs. 45). Meanwhile, Quincy Notre Dame (ranked 132nd) will meet Glenwood (ranked 25th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
