Basketball Recap: Crossroads Christian Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ridgecroft on Monday, Crossroads Christian came back down to earth. The Colts were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 47-46 to the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes. The Colts lost against the Hurricanes in their previous head to head back in December of 2018, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 72-47 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Crossroads Christian lost, don't look at Brody Watkins. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-14 on his way to 21 points along with six boards and five steals. Watkins is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least five every time he's taken the court this season. Josh Smith was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Cape Fear Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alex Wolf led the charge by dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Wolf a new career-high. Treyvon Robinson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Crossroads Christian fell to 2-1. As for Cape Fear Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Coming up, Crossroads Christian will challenge Henderson Collegiate at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cape Fear Academy, they will square off against Southeastern Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
