Softball Recap: Somerset Academy Has No Trouble Against Schoolhouse Prep

Somerset Academy saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack with a sharp 11-3 win. Considering the Panthers have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Caitlyn Diaz made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Bailey, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Ava De La Cruz was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Somerset Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Somerset Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 13.5 hits in those games compared to only 5.5 in the others. As for Schoolhouse Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.

Coming up, Somerset Academy will square off against Westminster Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Westminster Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Somerset Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Schoolhouse Prep, they will challenge Coral Reef at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Schoolhouse Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
