The Dougherty Trojans will square off against the Sherwood Christian Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Dougherty has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Dougherty is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Southwest DeKalb, falling 19-7. While the Trojans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 4-0 in the first period.
Kameron Knighton and Courtney Love stepped up to the plate in a big way. Knighton went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Love scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Sherwood Christian Academy made easy work of Turner County last Thursday and carried off a 10-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
John Seward and Michael Merritt made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Seward pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Merritt kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Sherwood Christian Academy is 2-1 when Seward allows three or fewer earned runs, but 2-5 otherwise. At bat, Seward scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Merritt scored a run while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Qwinton Murray, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Sherwood Christian Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of John Butler, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Sherwood Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Sherwood Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Dougherty, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.
Everything went Dougherty's way against Sherwood Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March, as Dougherty made off with a 13-2 win. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
