Soccer Game Preview: Smithson Valley vs. Rouse

The Smithson Valley Rangers will face off against the Rouse Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Smithson Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Harlingen South get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for Smithson Valley, who have now won six contests in a row.

Meanwhile, Rouse had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 goals) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Bulldogs. Give Rouse's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Their offense was hitting McAllen from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal. Shelby Wilson led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Rouse's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those six matchups. As for Smithson Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4-3.

Smithson Valley couldn't quite get it done against Rouse when the teams last played back in January as they fell 3-1. Can Smithson Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
