Softball Recap: Enloe Wins Going Away Against Broughton

Enloe came out on top against Broughton on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Capitals. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Capitals: they've now won five in a row.

Avery Modlin made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Emily Peters and Kylan Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Peters got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Wright went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Wright has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Watson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Enloe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Enloe pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Broughton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Enloe didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-6 win against Leesville Road on the 21st. As for Broughton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Athens Drive on the 21st.
