Softball Recap: Grand County Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

Grand County extended their postseason success on Thursday against Panguitch. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bobcats. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Hope Shumway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Danica Hirschfeld was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Kaiya Moore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Grand County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Grand County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Panguitch, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Grand County will face off against Altamont at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. Panguitch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
