Recap: Emery Spartans vs. Richfield Wildcats
If the Emery Spartans were riding high off their 60-30 takedown of the Delta Rabbits last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Emery fell 57-46 to Richfield on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Emery in their matchups with Richfield: they've now lost four in a row.
Emery's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kenadie Maughan, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds. Maughan hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Karleigh Stilson, who scored seven points along with five assists.
Leading Richfield to victory were Brielle Jolley and Abbee Albrecht. Jolley scored 14 points along with six assists and four blocks, while Albrecht dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jolley has scored all season. Hallie Janes was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Emery's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Richfield, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Emery will face off against Manti at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Manti focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Richfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Carbon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carbon is on a five-game streak of home wins, Richfield a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
