Softball Game Preview: Laton Mustangs vs. Kings Christian Crusaders

The Laton Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Kings Christian Crusaders at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Laton knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Kings Christian likes a good challenge.

Laton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Wonderful College Prep Academy on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 26-10 margin over the Lions.

Camila Figueroa was incredible, firing off two home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Emily Rojas was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Laton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.4.

Meanwhile, Kings Christian lost 19-9 to Alpaugh on Tuesday.

Laton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.9 runs over those games. As for Kings Christian, they now have a losing record of 8-9.

Laton might still be hurting after the 32-15 loss they got from Kings Christian in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
