Softball Recap: Manawa Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Manawa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Shiocton Chiefs 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Olivia Zielke spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Lily Krenke was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Zemple, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Manawa has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Shiocton, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Manawa will square off against rival Wittenberg-Birnamwood at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Shiocton is set to take on their familiar foe Iola-Scandinavia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
