Basketball Game Preview: Casa Grande Cougars vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

Salpointe Catholic is hoping to do what Eastmark couldn't last Saturday: put an end to Casa Grande's winning streak, which now stands at five games. Casa Grande came out on top against Eastmark by a score of 68-60. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salpointe Catholic). They blew past St. Johns Country Day 80-55 on Monday. The Lancers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Casa Grande is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Salpointe Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Casa Grande took a serious blow against Salpointe Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, falling 81-49. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Casa Grande was down 54-31.
