Baseball Recap: West Union Snags Sixth Victory in Last Eight Games

West Union extended their postseason success on Monday against Falkner. They never let Falkner get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for West Union, who have now won 14 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Grant Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Gavin Foley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases and four runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Herod, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

West Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .476 or higher in three consecutive contests.

West Union has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Falkner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-12.

West Union will have a chance to go back-to-back against Falkner: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Tuesday.
