Windham is a perfect 9-0 against Marshwood since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will challenge the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Windham is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
Windham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Noble 18-3 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Yani Kostopoulos, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Stella Jarvais, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Windham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Marshwood hadn't done well against Bonny Eagle recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Scots 5-4. The game was the first time the Hawks have beaten the Scots on their field since May 9, 2017.
Emily Hester made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Hester was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zoe Carnes was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Lilly Gennaro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Windham's record now sits at 7-1. As for Marshwood, they moved to 4-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.
Windham took their victory against Marshwood in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
