Softball Recap: Kinston Vikings vs. North Lenoir Hawks
Kinston extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 26 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 19-3 to the North Lenoir Hawks. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by exactly 16 runs.
As for North Lenoir, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For North Lenoir's part, Hallie Fowler made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave Fowler a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, North Lenoir got a massive performance out of Kailey Bridwell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Bridwell has posted since back in May of 2024. Allie Reaves was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Kinston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Lenoir, they will square off against James Kenan at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
