Basketball Game Preview: San Augustine Wolves vs. Hawkins Hawks

The San Augustine Wolves will challenge the Hawkins Hawks on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

San Augustine is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 60-39 margin over Garrison. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Hawkins came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wildcats, posting a 77-18 victory. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Wildcats are ranked 1050th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hawkins' win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points over those games. As for San Augustine, their victory bumped their record up to 21-9.

San Augustine might still be hurting after the 66-44 defeat they got from Hawkins when the teams last played back in February of 2021. Can San Augustine avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
