Basketball Recap: Sydni Goss' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Echols County over Irwin County

Echols County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-50 heartbreaker at the hands of the Irwin County Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 55-29 back in January.

Echols County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sydni Goss, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Yasmin Galindo was another key player, going 7 of 14 en route to 15 points and eight boards.

Aaliyah Austin was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds for Irwin County. That makes it four consecutive games in which Austin has scored at least a third of Irwin County's points. Another player making a difference was Ava Avant, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Echols County's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Irwin County, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Echols County has already played their next game, a 66-36 defeat against Brooks County on the 31st. As for Irwin County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 64-45 loss against Clinch County on the 29th.
